Home Depot Serving

A couple Saturdays a month, our students either make food or pick up COSTCO pizza and go to Home Depot in Santa Ana to hang out with the Day Laborers waiting for jobs.  The cool thing about it…it’s all student initiated and led!

Students are doing so much more than simply providing some food and water to people who need it.  They are building relationships with people with vastly different life experiences and circumstances.  They are learning about how hard these guys work, how they are cheated out of money on some jobs and taken advantage of, how they send almost all of what they make back to Mexico to support their families, and so much more!  Just a few minutes outside of Irvine there is a completely different world, and these students that participate in these Home Depot Saturdays are serving the least, last, and lost of our culture.  Plus, it’s a great place to practice your Spanish!

*Almost every time there is a Fusion staff member or adult present with them, but not always.  Again, this is not a Newsong sponsored event, but a great opportunity for students to lead and serve on their own.

E-Mail fusion@newsong.net for more information and join the Facebook group to find out about future dates, as that is the common method of communication with our students!
